NIS to begin passport intervention in four UK cities

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a special passport intervention exercise for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom. The exercise will allow Nigerians residing in the UK to access passport services at specific locations over a period of time. According to the NIS, the exercise aims to help Nigerians obtain new passports, renew existing ones, and resolve pending passport applications.

The agency disclosed in a statement on Monday that the services are scheduled to take place in London, Manchester, Aberdeen and Cardiff in September. In London, the exercise will be held in Layali Lounge, Trent Park, Bramley Road, London N14 4UW, while Nigerians in Manchester can access the service at Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE. The exercise will be held in London and Manchester between September 7 and 19, 2026.

It will be conducted in Aberdeen and Cardiff from 21 to 26 September. In Aberdeen, the exercise will take place at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR. In Cardiff, it will be held at Sophia Gardens, Sophia Walk, Cardiff CF11 9XR. The NIS said it has deployed a Passport Intervention Team from its headquarters in Abuja to conduct the exercise.

“All eligible Nigerians in the specified locations, including surrounding areas, who wish to obtain new passports, renew their passports, or resolve pending applications are encouraged to take advantage of the exercise and visit the designated venues on the scheduled dates,” it stated. The NIS indicated that the intervention follows a directive from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as well as consultations with the Nigerian High Commission and representatives of Nigerian communities in the UK.

Nigerian applicants must complete their applications and make payments through the NIS Passport Application portal before attending the intervention exercise.

  • Ibom Air’s latest Airbus aircraft is second among the 10 ordered by ex-Gov Emmanuel’s administration

Ibom Air’s latest Airbus aircraft is second among the 10 ordered by ex-Gov Emmanuel’s administration

The new Airbus A220-300 aircraft acquired by Ibom Air, a commercial airline owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, is among the 10 ordered by the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2021.

“The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to Ibom Air at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, George Uriesi,” Aniekan Essienette, group manager, marketing and communication, Ibom Air, said in the statement on 26 August.

By Tuesday, a few hours from today, the Akwa Ibom State Government will hold a ceremony at the Victor Attah International Airport, the home of Ibom Air, to receive the new aircraft as part of the state’s 39th anniversary celebration. There is excitement among the airline management and workers, government officials and Akwa Ibom residents as they await the aircraft’s arrival.

But beyond the excitement, this development reinforces the legacy of former Governor Emmanuel’s administration in Akwa Ibom and his successor’s ability to keep faith. Then-Governor Emmanuel, against all odds and public criticism, established Ibom Air in 2019, making Akwa Ibom the first sub-national entity in Nigeria to own and operate a commercial airline.

Enugu State, under Governor Peter Mbah, taking a cue from Akwa Ibom, now owns an airline, Enugu Air, which launched its inaugural flight on 7 July 2025. Cross River and Bayelsa states are also exploring ways to set up their own airlines. Ibom Air’s latest Airbus A220-300 aircraft is among the 10 that Mr Emmanuel’s administration ordered in 2021 before leaving office in 2023.

Mr Emmanuel led the airline management to Dubai for the deal signing on 16 November 2021 at the Dubai Airshow.

  • Renewed Hope Agenda working, Tinubu hails GDP growth to 4.43%

Renewed Hope Agenda working, Tinubu hails GDP growth to 4.43%

President Bola Tinubu on Monday welcomed the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics showing that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, up from 4.23 per cent in the same period of 2025. He described the figures as evidence that his administration’s economic reforms were working.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement he signed on Monday titled, ‘President Tinubu Welcomes Reports of Growth in GDP, Assures of Stronger Microeconomic Performance.’ According to the statement, the NBS report also showed growth in agriculture, manufacturing, the oil and gas sector and the services sector, which now dominates the economy in terms of its contribution to aggregate GDP.

It said that, in nominal terms, the country’s aggregate GDP for the second quarter stood at N119.27tn, up 18.43 per cent from the N100.7tn recorded in the same period last year. The President said the timing of the report was significant, coming as the opposition continued efforts to downplay his administration’s achievements since May 2023, with some politicians pledging to reverse existing policies if elected in 2027.

“In the past three years, we tried to do the hard part by implementing the necessary reforms to stabilise the economy. “Now the economy is stabilised, and we have laid the foundation for a prosperous nation. “We didn’t do the reforms to create challenges, but to ensure prosperity reaches all our people,” Tinubu said. “The results of the efforts are becoming very clear to all: the Renewed Hope Agenda is working.

“Because of those tough decisions, today Nigeria has trade surpluses. Our foreign reserves are at their highest in 17 years.

  • Why Community Stories Deserve More Space in Modern Media

A wider look at community, media, public life and the stories shaping everyday conversations.

    Why this matters

Why Community Stories Deserve More Space in Modern Media is not just a headline. It is a useful lens for thinking about the choices, habits and conversations that shape everyday life. At Regia Radio, we want our stories to be informative without becoming cold, thoughtful without becoming heavy, and hopeful without ignoring reality.

There is rarely one perfect formula. Context matters, people matter, and good decisions usually begin with paying attention. That is why this feature focuses on practical perspective: what we can notice, what we can learn, and what we can carry into the next conversation.

    Keep the conversation going

Regia Radio brings together faith, culture, music, news, technology, lifestyle and meaningful conversations. Explore more stories across the site, watch Regia TV, or keep the radio player running while you browse.

    Looking beyond the headline

Good news reading means asking what changed, who is affected, which details are confirmed and what still needs clarification. Context protects readers from reacting to a headline before understanding the wider picture. That is the perspective behind “Why Community Stories Deserve More Space in Modern Media”. The goal is not to turn one idea into a rule for everybody, but to notice the principles that can travel across different situations.

It also helps to ask what the conversation leaves out. Headlines naturally compress complex subjects. Real life contains trade-offs, timing, relationships, local realities and personal responsibilities that rarely fit into one sentence. A richer view makes room for those details and gives readers something practical to think about after the first impression has passed.

    Questions worth carrying with you

What part of this subject affects everyday choices? Which assumptions deserve another look? Is there a habit, conversation or decision that could be handled with more intention? These questions keep a story useful even after the initial moment of interest has faded.

For Regia Radio, thoughtful media should leave people better informed and more able to engage with the world around them. That means combining curiosity with responsibility: checking context, listening to different experiences and resisting the urge to reduce people or issues to a single easy explanation.

    A practical next step

Take one idea from this story and connect it to something concrete. It could be a conversation to have, a question to research, a habit to reconsider, a person to encourage or simply a decision to pay closer attention before reacting. Small actions are often where useful information becomes meaningful.
